Bearers of Memories

The group "Bearers of Memories" deals with the plurality of memories that is (or can be) connected to material objects. It is part of my doctoral research project at Hasselt University and PXL-MAD School of Arts in Hasselt, Belgium, which is funded by the Special Research Fund (BOF) of Hasselt University (BOF21DOC04).

Year:
2022 - ongoing

"Bearers of Memories" aims to visualise the simultaneity of different memories that can be contained in one single object.

For the objects, I created artificial multiple exposures of second-hand rings that I bought in New York City. By photographing the rings from different angles and combining the pictures in Photoshop, I tried to create something that visualised my perception of the simultaneity of the memories captured in the rings. After creating and combining the images, I began to make drawings based on the combined images and searched for the shape of the object I wanted to create. When I finally found it, it was modelled, shaped and cast in glass.

The objects created intentionally utilise technical flaws such as bubbles, impurities and incompletely melted glass.
